About

I am an anthropologist who works primarily with archaeological data. My research centers of a variety of questions, including economic trade, the evolution of social and political complexity, and urbanism. To approach trade, I have developed methodological specializations in sourcing analysis, specifically of archaeological ceramics. I employ chemical and petrographic analyses to trace ceramics found in the archaeological record back to their location of production. I have also developed a specialty in remote sensing using satellite imagery and lidar data. I have been employ those methods principally in the Gulf lowlands of Mexico, where, with several colleagues, I am developing an architectural database to query patterns of architectural similarity and difference, with implications to understand social and political interactions.
